Step-by-Step Application Process

Complete your 40-hour pre-licensing training
You must complete a state-approved Class D training program (like the one offered by Nelson Security Academy) before applying for your license. Training must be taught by a licensed Florida instructor at an approved security school. -
Receive your Certificate of Completion
After passing your final exam (minimum 70%), your school issues a Certificate of Completion. Keep this — you will submit it with your application. -
Complete fingerprinting
Visit an FDACS-approved Livescan provider for electronic fingerprinting. The fee is typically $48–$65. Find locations at the FDACS website or call (800) 435-7352. -
Submit your FDACS application online
Go to MyFloridaLicense.com, create an account, and submit your Class D application. Current fee: $45. -
