- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal alien authorized to work in the United States
- Background: Must not have been convicted of a felony, or if convicted, civil rights must have been restored for at least 10 years. Certain misdemeanors may also disqualify you.
- Mental health: Must not have been adjudicated incapacitated or been involuntarily committed to a mental institution without subsequent restoration of capacity
- Drug use: Must not be an unlawful user of a controlled substance
- Identity: Must be able to provide a valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport)

Disqualifying Records
If you have a criminal record, it does not automatically disqualify you — but certain offenses do. FDACS reviews each application individually. If you are unsure, contact FDACS directly at (800) 435-7352 before enrolling in training.
